Design and evaluation of nanosized griseofulvin loaded bio-adhesive layers of acacia catechu (Katha) bio-penetrant for Transungual delivery

Topical therapy is highly desirable in treating nail disorders due to its localized effects, which results minimal adverse systemic events and possibly improved adherence. However, the effectiveness of topical therapies limited by drug permeability through plate. Infections foot hand nails fungi are a very common condition millions people. They account for about half all estimated occur over 10% population. Griseofulvin an antifungal medication acts restraining microtubules blocking contagious mitosis, consequently fungistatic. Orally griseofulvin has long elimination half-life (9-21 hrs), variable bioavailability (25to70%), Hepatic demethylation glucuronidation metabolism frequent doses(500 1000mg) adult (11mg) children. Katha(catechu) imperative restorative plant utilized as part Ayurveda such variety sicknesses generally mother healthcare. Solvent casting technique was used prepare bio-adhesive layers. Nine formulations were prepared using griseofulvin(drug), acacia catechu bio-penetrant, beetroot bio-polymer fructose film ability. The layers physically examined color evaluated thickness, weight uniformity test, folding endurance, Spectral studies, stability in-vitro & ex-vivo studies.
